Xiaolu Guo and Paul French: in Conversation – Veranda Books
Join Veranda for an evening with writer and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo and historian and author Paul French, as the longtime friends come together to discuss their newly published books.
Xiaolu Guo will talk about Everyday Tang, which grew out of a journey through China with her 11-year-old daughter. Part travelogue and part historical reflection, the book explores the legacy of the Tang Dynasty while considering what remains of one of China’s most celebrated cultural eras today.
Paul French will discuss The Last Emperor of China, his latest work examining the lives of boy-emperor Puyi and his wife Wanrong during the final years of the Manchu dynasty. Drawing on extensive research, the book brings the closing chapter of imperial China vividly to life.
With both authors bringing distinctive perspectives on Chinese history, identity and culture, the evening promises an engaging conversation between two accomplished storytellers.
Drinks will be served from 6.30pm, with the conversation beginning at 7pm.
