Churchill’s Palate: A Talk and Tasting – The Wallace Collection

Discover a different side to Winston Churchill at The Wallace Collection this November with Churchill’s Palate, an evening exploring the former Prime Minister’s famously particular tastes in food and drink.

Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Harry Wallop joins experts from The Whisky Exchange for a talk looking at Churchill’s fondness for Cognac, wine, Champagne and his regular whisky and soda — a drink he reportedly referred to as his “mouthwash”.

Wallop will also share insights from a past journalistic assignment in which he attempted to follow Churchill’s daily drinking habits “drink for drink”, offering a glimpse into Churchill’s routines and the role food and drink played in his everyday life.

Following the talk, guests attending in person can take part in a tasting of three drinks associated with Churchill: Hine Rare Cognac, Prunier XO Cognac and Ararat Dvin Brandy, the latter famously presented to him by Joseph Stalin at the Yalta Conference in 1945.

The evening also includes the opportunity to visit Winston Churchill: The Painter, The Wallace Collection’s major retrospective exploring another, more creative side of his life and work.
