Flags of Celebration: A Drop-In Flag-Making Workshop
Join artist Fateme and be part of a collaborative flag-making workshop that invites everyone—of all ages and abilities—to contribute to a set of beautiful feather flags inspired by the natural world and the spirit of community. Each flag will be a layered artwork, built over time using colour, light, and storytelling. There’s no need to bring anything—just drop in, get stuck in, and help create something meaningful.
The finished flags will be displayed for the remainder of the festival, as a vibrant tribute to community creativity.
About the Workshop
Across five large flags, we’ll explore themes that celebrate the elements of life—from the warmth of the sun to the power of imagination. Each flag will begin as a sheer fabric base, gradually transformed using bold fabric shapes, colour, and contributions from the community. It’s a creative process that’s easy to join at any point, whether you stay for ten minutes or two hours. These flags will become a shared expression of joy, connection and creativity—made together, by hand.
Themes we’ll explore:
– In Praise of the Sun – celebrating warmth, light and energy
– In Praise of the Wind and Air – reflecting breath, movement and freedom
– In Praise of Nature – inspired by trees, leaves and growth
– In Praise of Joy and Imagination – a tribute to creativity, playfulness and dreams
– In Praise of Peace and Connection – honouring stillness, reflection and community
