Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Christine Lahti brings her acclaimed new play The Smile of Her to Marylebone Theatre for a strictly limited London run.
Funny, furious and deeply personal, this powerful autobiographical work follows a woman’s journey from 1950s suburban America into a rapidly changing world. Along the way, she confronts family mythology, misogyny, ambition, motherhood and the pressures of being “a good girl”, asking what happens when the smile she’s been expected to wear begins to crack.
Performed by Lahti herself in a remarkable solo performance, The Smile of Her is a moving exploration of the stories we inherit, the voices we silence and the courage it takes to reclaim our own identity. Directed by Mêlisa Annis, this bold and deeply human production offers an intimate portrait of one woman’s life while speaking to universal experiences of expectation, resilience and self-discovery.
