Sublunary: Long Huang and Yuhao Chen – Mandy Zhang Art

Mandy Zhang Art presents Sublunary, a duo exhibition of new paintings by Long Huang and Yuhao Chen, curated by Ning Yu. Borrowing its name from ancient cosmology, sublunary refers to the world beneath the moon: a realm defined by change, imperfection and human experience. Reimagined through the lens of the contemporary city, the exhibition explores how emotion, memory and perception linger within urban spaces after dark.

Through distinct painterly approaches, both artists reflect on the quiet psychological life of the modern city. Huang’s paintings depict architectural spaces suffused with spectral light, where empty corridors, reflective pools and solitary birds suggest moments of stillness and introspection. Chen, meanwhile, turns his focus to the city’s edges and thresholds, introducing partially hidden figures and animal presences that subtly mirror vulnerability, intimacy and distance.

Together, the works form an atmospheric meditation on life beneath the glow of urban illumination. Sublunary invites viewers to pause within this fragile, luminous world, where human feeling endures amid transience, reflection and quiet estrangement.
