Stephanie Rew: Dreamers – Thompson’s Gallery
Thompson’s Gallery presents Dreamers, a major solo exhibition of new paintings by celebrated Scottish artist Stephanie Rew, exploring imagination, introspection and the quiet spaces beyond everyday experience.
Renowned for her exquisitely detailed figurative works, Rew combines the technical mastery of historical painting with a distinctly contemporary atmosphere. Through luminous portraits and richly decorative compositions, her figures drift inward, connected through silent conversation or captured alone in moments of quiet reverie.
Drawing inspiration from the Old Masters, Renaissance craftsmanship, antique embroidery, stained glass and tapestry design, Rew brings together centuries-old techniques and modern approaches. Working with egg tempera, oil paint, watercolour, pastel, gold leaf and glass gilding, she creates surfaces rich in texture, symbolism and extraordinary luminosity.
Featuring both large-scale gilded panels and intimate works on paper, Dreamers continues Rew’s exploration of light, ornamentation and storytelling, inviting viewers to step away from the familiar and imagine other worlds and other times.
