Lecture Series: Marylebone Minds – St Marylebone Parish Church

St Marylebone Parish Church’s Lecture Series returns, this time celebrating the intellectual heritage and enduring curious spirit of Marylebone. Through a series of evening lectures, they will bring you fascinating stories from the area’s past all the way to how the area’s modern minds deal with our contemporary challenges.

2026 Lecture Series: Marylebone Minds – Past and Present. The London Sketch Club and Marylebone, its Former Home

About the speakers:

• Mark Prizeman is a retired architect, born and raised in Marylebone. Archivist to The London Society, Trustee and Hon Sec to the London Sketch Club.
• Anthony Cohen is an artist, graphic designer and currently President of The London Sketch Club.
• In 2023 Tony produced, with the assistance of Mark Prizeman, a book to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Club’s founding.

About the lecture:

The evening’s illustrated lecture will be in two parts. First, a relevant history of the Marylebone area where the Club was based for many years and secondly, a history of the Club, home to some of the finest cartoonists, illustrators and commercial artists of the day ranging from John Hassall, Edmund Dulac and W. Heath Robinson in the early years to Terence Cuneo, Peter Blake and Michael Foreman in later years.
