Fenella Humphreys, Nicholas Daniel & Martin Roscoe – Wigmore Hall
This lunchtime concert at Wigmore Hall brings together three outstanding musicians for a richly contrasted programme spanning classical elegance, British lyricism and contemporary reflection.
Violinist Fenella Humphreys, Wigmore Hall Artist in Residence, is joined by oboist Nicholas Daniel and pianist Martin Roscoe for an hour of music that moves between eras and emotional worlds. The programme opens with Mozart’s radiant Violin Sonata in B flat, followed by Magnus III: Distant Echoes, Alasdair Nicolson’s moving tribute to composer Peter Maxwell Davies.
The concert also shines a light on the evocative writing of Dorothy Howell, once described as “the English Richard Strauss”, with her expressive Air, Variations & Finale. The recital concludes with Fauré’s first Violin Sonata, a work full of warmth, elegance and French romantic colour.
