Chloe Aridjis: in Conversation – Veranda Books
Join Booker Prize-longlisted author Chloe Aridjis at Veranda Books for an evening celebrating her latest novel, The Shadow of the Object.
Aridjis will be in conversation with author Madeleine Dunnigan, discussing a novel that moves between Mexico and London while exploring friendship, grief, desire, memory and the shifting boundaries of perception. The Shadow of the Object was longlisted for the Booker Prize 2026, with the judges highlighting its meditation on friendship and grief.
The story follows Flora, who meets an elderly collector of pre-cinema objects while recovering in hospital in Mexico. Their encounter leads her back to London and into a strange, dreamlike journey involving magic lanterns, illusion and the way our imaginations shape what we see.
Hosted by Veranda Books on Seymour Place, the event offers the chance to hear more about the ideas and inspirations behind one of this year’s Booker-nominated novels.
