Cable Street – Marylebone Theatre

Following two completely sold-out runs at Southwark Playhouse, Cable Street returns to London at Marylebone Theatre from 16 January to 28 February. This powerful new musical revisits one of the most significant moments in the city’s history, bringing the spirit of resistance, solidarity and community vividly to life.

Set in October 1936 in London’s East End, the story follows Sammy, Mairead and Ron as they navigate work, friendship and love on Cable Street, just as Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists prepare to march through their neighbourhood. What follows is an extraordinary act of unity, as Jewish communities, Irish workers and political activists come together to block the road and stand against hatred.

With a bold, contemporary score by Tim Gilvin and Alex Kanefsky and direction by Adam Lenson, Cable Street is both an intimate portrait of everyday lives and an electrifying ensemble piece. It is a celebration of courage and community, and a timely reminder of the power of people standing together.
