Before I Forget: Book Launch – Veranda Books
Join French author Anne Pauly at Veranda Books this October to celebrate the English-language publication of her debut novel, Before I Forget.
Described as a tragicomic portrait of loss, the novel follows Anne after the death of her father, Jean-Pierre — a complicated man remembered as both a self-taught philosopher and romantic, and as a violent alcoholic whose behaviour deeply affected his family. As she sorts through his belongings and prepares for his funeral, Anne is forced to reckon with grief, memory and the unsettling ways she recognises parts of herself in the father she spent much of her life trying to escape.
For the event, Pauly will be joined in conversation by writer and critic Oonagh Devitt Tremblay and the novel’s translator, Dina Leifer, for an evening exploring the book and its journey into English. The event is supported by the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni.
