Aquinas Piano Trio – Wigmore Hall

The acclaimed Aquinas Piano Trio returns to Wigmore Hall on 29 December 2025 for an evening of expressive contrasts and brilliant musicianship. Featuring violinist Ruth Rogers, cellist Katherine Jenkinson, and pianist Martin Cousin, the ensemble presents a richly layered programme pairing classical pillars with a vibrant 20th-century gem.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s much-loved ‘Ghost’ Trio, a work whose serene lyricism and haunting middle movement have captivated audiences for generations. Frank Martin’s Piano Trio on popular Irish melodies follows, weaving folk colour into his distinctive harmonic language with both inventiveness and charm. After the interval, the Trio tackles the emotional depths of Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, a gripping and powerful masterpiece composed during the darkest days of the Second World War.
