A Place to Be Thrown Into – 67 York Street Gallery
Discover A Place to Be Thrown Into, the London debut solo exhibition by Taipei-born artist Yachen Chen, coming to 67 York Street Gallery this September.
Bringing together paintings and mixed-media works, the exhibition explores memory, intimacy and our relationship with domestic spaces. At its centre is a single armchair once belonging to Chen’s late grandfather, transformed through the work into a symbol of presence, absence and belonging.
Using layers of Xuan paper, oil paint, collage, image transfer and repeated handwriting, Chen creates works in which figures and familiar objects appear, fade and overlap, reflecting on the way memories shift over time.
A Place to Be Thrown Into runs from 13–17 September, open daily from 11am–4pm. A private view will also take place on Saturday 12 September from 4.30–6.30pm
